00:00:16.160 Hi everyone, my name is Rahul Subramaniam, and I'm the CEO at Engine Yard. I am delighted to welcome you all to RubyConf 2021. The Ruby community has been at the heart of the Engine Yard story since its very birth, and we feel really privileged and proud to be part of this amazing community.
00:00:27.920 Over the next three days, we look forward to an awesome lineup of keynotes, talks, and workshops. But most of all, we are delighted to have this opportunity for the community to get together on this platform.
00:00:51.039 I have a confession to make: despite what my role says, I really identify as a developer. I love being a developer; I love to solve hard problems, and I enjoy writing and seeing small, elegant, clean code. I feel over the moon with the rush that comes from seeing my code run flawlessly. I love learning and sharing better ways to write code.
00:01:04.120 This is my happiness, and unfortunately, this is where that joy can end. The minute I'm done writing code, I'm faced with numerous choices to make, whether it be from CI/CD to monitoring or observability. Now, as much as I love AWS, I hate deciding which one of the 18 different ways I will deploy my containers to the AWS cloud.
00:01:30.400 These choices are just too hard and too complex to make every single time. When I visit the documentation hoping for guidance, I find myself faced with an ever-increasing number of options. I’m not happy to see that I have 991 different choices because I clearly do not have the expertise in each of them to make informed decisions. As a result, I end up with a headache.
00:02:10.560 As I put on my developer hat, I realize that I really don’t want to lose my happiness bubble. In fact, I want tools that will help me grow it. Growing that happiness bubble has been at the heart of everything we've been working on.
00:02:42.879 Fifteen years ago, we focused on two key areas: the first on Ruby and the second on AWS. Every morning, we woke up with a mission to make this combination of Ruby and AWS easy. With AWS launching hundreds of new services every year and the Ruby ecosystem growing daily, that mission is even more relevant today.
00:03:21.120 If you really think about it, your happiness bubble is all about simplicity, allowing you to focus on what you love doing most. So with that in mind, I welcome you once again to RubyConf 2021.
00:03:43.680 We would love to connect with you. We want to understand more about your journey through all this complexity and better understand where your happiness bubble lives.
