00:00:08.059 The talks are six minutes long, and we do a brief swap-over to see how everything works. So, without further ado, I will hand it over.
00:00:18.090 In 2012, I bought myself a walking desk because I wanted to invest in my health. I realized I didn’t want to sit down anymore, as we become inactive when we do. Ever since, I’ve been walking during coding, talking, and other tasks. Since 2012, I’ve completed 13 million steps just by walking while working.
00:00:36.630 At first, I started walking at a pace of one kilometer an hour. But over time, I increased my speed, and now I often walk at four kilometers an hour. This has resulted in much more movement in my day-to-day work.
00:01:01.680 Interestingly, I found that when doing tasks I don’t enjoy, my mind would wander. However, now with a walking desk, I can maintain focus for hours without distraction. It turns out that being active boosts blood flow to the brain, helping me to concentrate better.
00:02:07.649 It's essential that we understand our bodies are not meant for prolonged sitting. Most of our workplace routines have shifted to sitting for long periods, which is detrimental. Some people think that going to the gym for an hour a week offsets this issue. That's like arguing that smoking once a week is fine because you don't smoke every day. It's important to recognize that our bodies need regular movement.
00:02:25.740 For me, standing desks provide a little more movement, but they still aren't enough. In the evenings, I often sit down to do a simple task and find three hours have gone by without me realizing. However, this doesn't happen anymore since I switched to a walking desk. Now, if I find myself standing at my desk and not moving after 10 minutes, I realize I need to walk.
00:03:15.030 This simple realization allows me to make a conscious decision to either start walking or disengage from my computer to spend time with family. I've noticed the more I move, the more energy I have. I encourage everyone to consider how they can incorporate more movement into their work habits.
00:04:01.950 I have a suggestion for everyone. At any time you're sitting and waiting for something, you can choose to move instead. For instance, I’ve already reached 5,600 steps today, which isn’t much for me at a conference; typically, I opt for more movement during the day.

00:08:31.270 As a parent, I've learned a lot over the years. When children are small, they require strict supervision, especially when it comes to safety. However, as they grow older, the challenges shift significantly, particularly around finances, alcohol, and technology.
